The Sun Room at the Longtime Restaurant & Bar in Bali demonstrates how light can transform an environment, creating an immersive dining experience.
Designed by Studio Nimmersatt, this space blends modern elegance and a cosy atmosphere, adapting harmoniously to different times of the day.
Lighting was a central element in realising the vision of the client, whose goal was to transform a historic building in Canggu into a vibrant venue, combining the charm of a mid-century holiday home with the energy of Balinese nightlife. Longtime Restaurant & Bar was in fact conceived to stay open from lunchtime until late in the evening, and to accompany guests from aperitifs to midnight cocktails, amid music and sharing good vibes. Therefore, the lighting design had to accompany the natural flow of the day, creating a harmonious transition between bright and welcoming spaces during the day and a more intimate and intriguing atmosphere in the evening.
The key role of light bulbs
A24 lamps by BeBulbs play a key role in the design. Thanks to lighting designed in detail to evolve over the course of the day, the Sun Room goes from a brilliant 2700K brightness during lunchtime to a softer, more intimate atmosphere in the evening, with shades around 1800K. An effect that recalls the cycle of the sun, emphasising comfort and a sense of cosiness. The bulb's copper-coloured hemisphere not only enhances the aesthetics, but also recalls the the theme of the sun at any time of day or night.
The choice between warm and cool light (learn more here) is crucial in defining the atmosphere of a room. While cooler shades encourage concentration and energy, warmer shades create intimacy and relaxation. The lighting in the Sun Room demonstrates how thoughtful design can harness these principles to provide a unique experience, where light is not only functional, but also emotional.
